To many, Cape Coral is "just paradise." To scores more, not only is it paradise, but it?s an ideal place to raise a family or spend their golden years. Though relatively new compared to its neighbor, Fort Myers, Cape Coral?s growth over the 50 years since its founding has led the city to become one of the largest in land size in the state of Florida. Over 150,000 full-time residents call "the Cape," as locals call it, home, with many more seasonal, part-time residents flocking here during the winter.
Cape Coral has become a retreat for those escaping from freezing northern climes. Warm winter temperatures have made Cape Coral into a winter playground for those migrating from up north or overseas. Cape Coral attracts a sizeable population of seasonal residents from all over the United States and Europe.
But why Cape Coral? Location, location, location! Situated minutes from the coast, Cape Coral is an ideal home-base for both visitors exploring Southwest Florida and for families seeking an affordable place to raise a family, conveniently close to schools, shopping and jobs in the Cape Coral/Fort Myers area. And then there is the water! Hundreds of miles of fresh and saltwater canals line the streets of the Cape, making waterfront property widely available. Many of these saltwater canals allow boat owners to navigate to the Gulf of Mexico via the Caloosahatchee River.
With great weather year-round, easy access to Southwest Florida beaches and attractions, and great properties available for those looking for something affordable, luxurious, or something in between, Cape Coral offers the best in tropical living!

CAPE CORAL YESTERDAY AND TODAY
Unlike much of southern Florida, Cape Coral?s history begins in the late 1950?s when the Rosen brothers first set eyes on the swampy swath of land on the Caloosahatchee River just Northwest of Fort Myers. Dreaming of a waterfront paradise, the Rosen Brothers broke ground on an ambitious project: development of a master-planned community promising a waterfront lot for nearly every home in the city. Beginning in the Redfish Point area, the area from Cape Coral Parkway and Coronado Parkway south to the Cape Coral Yacht Club, land was systematically developed.
By the 1964, Cape Coral had arrived with about 3,000 residents and a span linking it to Fort Myers. In the 1970?s and 80?s the Cape grew by leaps and bounds. With roads stretching beyond Pine Island Road to the North and Santa Barbara to the East, the Cape?s infrastructure was ready for a mass migration the like of which unseen in Florida. But this vast network of shell-paved road remained vacant; no homes lined these lonely streets. As Cape Coral was sold to many foreign investors, the land lay dormant as these foreigners never returned to build homes. This changed after a swift population boom in the 1990?s where Cape Coral?s population swelled to over 100,000, many of whom were young families settling in the Cape to commute to nearby Fort Myers and Naples.
Cape Coral today is not only a great place to spend a Southwest Florida vacation; it?s a great place to live! 150,000 full-time residents can?t be wrong! Until recently, Cape Coral residents often traveled to neighboring Fort Myers for shopping, medical care and entertainment. With landmark growth, especially in the northern sector of the Cape, major department and discount stores opened outlets, keeping shoppers in the city. Cape Coral Hospital and Lee Memorial Health System?s General Practitioner and Specialist?s Clinics provide Cape residents world-class medical care where only 25 years prior, little medical care existed.
When residents do need to leave the Cape, whether it?s for sporting events or entertainment in Fort Myers, or to visit the sugar-white beaches of Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel, they can now rely on a superb local infrastructure to get there. With the opening of the Midpoint Bridge and Del Prado Extension, and the widening and improvement of many of the Cape Coral?s main arterial roads, getting to, from and around the Cape is easier than ever.
